 MetalGarurumon and WarGreymon battle each other to the death. Tai and the other Digidestined can't believe this is happening. Before the battle gets too serious, a mysterious light transports the combatants to another time, where they learn the history of the Digidestined and the Digital World.
They learn how they were chosen and what their mission is. Restore to sanity, Matt decides he must leave the team to try and discover himself.

 Tired of losing friends, Mimi decides to leave the team as well. Joe goes along with her to protect her. The two of them end up running into their old enemy, Ogremon, who is now on the run from the Dark Master.
They help treat Ogremon's injuries and begin to teach him what it's like to have friends. They end up running into another old enemy, but this time a deadlier, and more evil foe. Etemon has returned, and he is now MetalEtemon.

 It's reunion time, as another face from the past returns. Leomon has learned how to digivolve into SabreLeomon. He rescues Joe and Mimi before MetelEtemon can destroy them. He tells them of the dark times since the Dark Masters arrived.
As he finishes his story, MetalEtemon arrives. SabreLeomon, Ogremon and Zudomon battle the Mega-Level Digimon. SabreLemon takes a fatal blow meant for Mimi. This gives Zudomon the chance he needs to crack MetalEtemon's shell, and SabreLemon places a final blow, destroy MetalEtemon forever.
As Leomon dies, Ogremon is moved by his old enemy's words and sacrifice, and seems to have accepted a new, nobler fate for himself.

 Kari becomes ill, so Tai and Izzy try to find some medicine for her. Tai admits to Izzy that he feels guilty because Kari often puts her need behind his, and he blames himself for her illness.
Machinedramon is trying to track all of the Digidestined and manages to find where Kari is being hidden. He launches a devastating assault that seemingly destroy them all.
